Wurld is still in its early days, so this policy may change as the app grows. If anything here is unclear or you have any questions, please get in touch at jamesarney11@gmail.com. Last updated 2026-06-15.
This policy explains what Wurld collects, why, who it's shared with, how long we keep it, and your choices. Wurld is operated from the United Kingdom for users worldwide; the operator of Wurld is the data controller and can be reached at jamesarney11@gmail.com.
We use your data to deliver your messages; translate them between participants' languages; power vocabulary, practice, and the in-app tutor; convert text to speech when you ask; keep the service working, secure, and debugged; and improve Wurld and your learning experience.
We do not use your data for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not share it with third parties except the service providers that run Wurld (below), or where the law requires it.
Wurld is not end-to-end encrypted — the translation, vocabulary, and tutor features need access to your message content to work. Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest on our provider's servers, but Wurld staff and our translation provider can access message content as described here. Please don't send sensitive information or media through Wurld.
For how Google handles data processed through these services, see Google's terms and privacy at policies.google.com/privacy and ai.google.dev/gemini-api/terms.
We may review messages and their translations to find consistent mistakes and poor-quality translations and improve the service. This review is limited to Wurld administrators. We do not currently use your content to train AI models; if that changes we will update this policy and ask you to accept the new version first.
If you allow contacts access, Wurld reads your device contacts' names and phone numbers to find which of them already use Wurld. We store contacts who are Wurld users; phone numbers that don't match a Wurld account are checked and then discarded, not stored on our servers.
Your data is stored on Google's servers, which may be located outside your country, including in the United States or the European Union. Where data is transferred internationally, it is protected by appropriate safeguards (such as the data-protection terms offered by Google).
We keep your messages, profile, and learning and usage data for as long as you keep them and your account — they are not automatically deleted after a set period. Wurld administrators can access your content for as long as it is stored (for support, debugging, and the quality review above). Detailed internal processing logs (the prompts and outputs of individual translations) are automatically deleted after 14 days; the underlying messages remain until you delete them.
You can delete individual chats, and your entire account from Settings → Delete account. Deleting your account removes your profile and sign-in record, your one-to-one chats and the images in them, your saved contacts, your flashcards, your practice and learning data, your usage logs, and your Life-mode data.
Some data may remain: messages you sent in group chats stay visible to the other members of those groups; copies in routine backups expire on a rolling schedule; and aggregate or anonymised statistics that no longer identify you may be retained.
Depending on where you live (and for UK/EU users under the UK GDPR / GDPR), you have rights to access, correct, delete, export, and restrict or object to our use of your data, and to withdraw consent. You can exercise many of these in the app, or contact us at jamesarney11@gmail.com. If you're in the UK or EU, you also have the right to complain to a data-protection regulator — in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
If you enable notifications, we send them through Apple's and Google's push-notification services so we can alert you to activity such as new messages.
If you use the Life feature (currently in beta), the text you enter and the scenes and dialogue it generates are processed by our AI provider to run the experience. We'll expand this section as the feature leaves beta.
Wurld is for people aged 16 and over and is not directed at younger children. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 16; if we learn we have, we'll delete it.
We may update this policy. When we make material changes we'll ask you to accept the new version before you continue using Wurld.
